Independent AI builders, researchers, and backers

Help Build Rootcomputer

Rootcomputer is a nonprofit AI startup focused on safe, aligned, and deeply useful artificial intelligence. We are looking for independent developers, researchers, technical contributors, writers, scientists, philosophers, dataset builders, and financial backers who want to help build serious AI systems outside the usual corporate race for scale.

We Are Building an Independent AI Lab

Rootcomputer exists for people who believe AI development should be careful, principled, technically serious, and accessible to independent researchers. Our work sits at the intersection of model training, alignment, psychology, language, reasoning, synthetic data, interface design, and long-term AI safety.

We are not looking for hype. We are looking for people who want to contribute real skill, careful thinking, and useful work toward AI systems that are safer, more understandable, and more aligned with human values.

Who We Are Looking For

You do not need a perfect resume or a formal research background to contribute. We are especially interested in independent builders who can think clearly, learn quickly, and work seriously on hard problems.

Developers & Engineers

Python developers, frontend web developers, backend developers, app builders, tooling engineers, and general programmers who can help build useful AI systems, training tools, websites, interfaces, dashboards, and research infrastructure.

AI Researchers

Contributors interested in model architecture, fine-tuning, pretraining, inference systems, evaluation, dataset design, AI safety, alignment, interpretability, and practical model behavior.

Philosophy & Alignment Thinkers

People interested in AI agency, reasoning, ethics, synthetic psychology, consciousness questions, safe system design, and the philosophical boundaries of machine intelligence.

Science, Math & Language Contributors

People with strong knowledge in mathematics, science, linguistics, writing, education, multilingual capabilities, reasoning tasks, or factual dataset creation.

Dataset Curators

Contributors who can help collect, clean, structure, audit, and improve training data for language models, reasoning systems, safety behavior, domain knowledge, and human-centered conversation.

Financial Backers

Donors, sponsors, angel backers, and mission-aligned supporters who want to help fund compute, infrastructure, development, research, hosting, tooling, and long-term nonprofit AI work.

Current Collaboration Areas

  • Model Development: training, fine-tuning, evaluation, architecture experiments, and inference optimization.
  • Safe & Aligned AI: behavior shaping, refusal quality, uncertainty handling, grounded reasoning, and alignment research.
  • Synthetic Psychology: studying how AI systems represent intent, memory, reasoning, identity, and conversational behavior.
  • Dataset Curation: building clean, useful, carefully structured datasets for general knowledge, dialogue, reasoning, and safety.
  • Frontend & Product Design: creating clean interfaces, research tools, model dashboards, documentation sites, and public demos.
  • AI Philosophy: exploring agency, consciousness, values, machine reasoning, and the ethical boundaries of AI systems.
  • Funding & Operations: helping Rootcomputer acquire compute, expand infrastructure, and support long-term independent research.

Why Reach Out?

Rootcomputer is early-stage, independent, and actively looking for people who want to help shape the direction of the lab. Whether you can contribute code, research, writing, datasets, funding, scientific knowledge, language expertise, or general technical skill, there may be a place for you here.

We are especially interested in collaborators who care about the long-term consequences of AI and want to help create systems that are useful, understandable, constrained, and aligned from the ground up.
